At the Helm is a cozy sailing simulation. On a real ship you turn the helm and pull ropes to work the sail, but the Playdate has one crank, so you use the D-pad to choose what the crank does: Helm to steer, Sail Angle to catch the wind, or Sail Length to raise or lower the sail. In the developer's words: "Find the perfect trim, and your ship flies!"
Right now only a free demo is available. It lets you sail where you like across an endless, procedurally generated sea of islands, with no deliveries, trading or progression. The developer says those will be exclusive to the full game, where you work as a courier: dock at island ports, take delivery jobs, plan routes across several jobs at once, and spend your earnings on upgrades such as a new sail, a better rudder and a bigger cargo hold.
The demo was published on itch.io on 29 Oct 2026. The page gives the full game's release as "Early 2027", and itch.io lists a $9 price, though nothing is on sale yet.
