Close Approach is "a first-person space sim odyssey". After an engine failure leaves your craft with no propulsion, "all there is left to do is observe your surroundings as you drift farther into the depths of space". Across nine stages you scan objects by tracking them, combining steady crank turns with roll adjustments on the D-pad, and you use an instrument panel to orient yourself and keep the reticle on target. A trailer and a page from the "ObsCore Series 9XX Operating Handbook" are linked from the store page. It has online scoreboards.
It's by Steven Namson, who also made the music app Strummer. It's been in the Catalog since February 2025 at $6 (also on itch.io). The accessibility note is frank: "a mechanically difficult game with a challenging learning curve". An Easy Mode setting, with slower-moving targets, came in v1.4 (21 Jul 2025, per the itch.io devlog). It was a finalist for Best Sound Design at the 2025 Playdate Community Awards.

Your engine has failed and you're drifting into deep space. All that's left is to observe: track and scan objects with precise crank turns across nine stages.
