What it is

OVERWORLD is a 1-bit action-puzzle for Playdate, inspired by AirXonix. In the developer's words, "your goal is to fill a rectangle with pixels by slicing it's surface into pieces", which is the classic territory-capture idea from the Xonix family. The itch.io page tags it Halloween and Spooky and calls it "a slightly spooky territory-capture game".

It's an early release: the page lists it as "In development", and the developer says they'd like to extend the original concept with open-world gameplay later. Besides the Playdate download, you can try it right in the browser on itch.io, through a custom shim that mimics the Playdate SDK and runs its Lua code with wasmoon. It was published on itch.io on 30 Oct 2026 as a free download.

Who made it

Nikolay Shebanov (code and visuals), with a flood-fill rewrite by Artem Tyurin. Sprites are Kenney's "1-Bit Pack" (CC0), sound effects are Imphenzia's "Universal Sound FX", the font is Sarah Cadigan-Fried's "Jersey", and the music is "One Sly Move" and "Pamgaea" by Kevin MacLeod (CC BY 4.0), per the itch.io credits.
