PATCH

What it is

PATCH is "an arcade shooter for Playdate that studies you." The page, written in the voice of the game's own machine persona, says each time you're "terminated" it analyses how you played, identifies your strongest habit and writes a patch against it; the patch notes are shown on screen, the arena changes and you adapt. The page's examples include a patch that removes the sector you favour, one that spawns hostiles behind a player who holds their aim still, and one that electrifies the perimeter for players who hug the walls.

The page lists eight tests per build and major builds V1 to V5, five "privileged processes" (GARBAGE_COLLECTOR, KERNEL, WORM, THE ENTITY and one that isn't disclosed), over 30 patches, nine exploits to inject between tests, seven hostile types, 30 voice lines, four music tracks and an ending. Observations persist between sessions.

You aim with the crank, and "fire is automatic". The D-pad moves, and A or B dashes. A free demo covers all of V1 and installs side by side with the full version; demo observations don't transfer. PATCH was published on itch.io on 25 Oct 2026: the full version (V1.0.11, 5.8 MB) is $5.00 USD or more, and the demo is 4.5 MB.
