Rogue Space

What it is

Rogue Space is "a roguelike about building an orbital defense against endless waves of enemies." As an employee of the Planetary Protection Agency (PPA) you operate orbital turrets and protect planets from incoming threats. You place cannons in orbit, use the crank to control your defense system, and face a variety of enemy types, each needing different tactics. You can combine weapon types to discover "powerful fusion effects", and between runs you spend earned XP on permanent upgrades. After each wave you get a module supply drop that can contain new cannons, passive upgrades or single-use activator modules.

The game is in development. The page says it's in alpha, with the core gameplay "100% complete" and "no major bugs are expected"; further updates will fine-tune difficulty and upgrade prices and add a new sector to defend and a new game mode. The developer says that once it's finished the price will rise to $6 USD and Rogue Space will be published on the official Playdate Store. Today it's $2.00 USD or more on itch.io.

The developer calls it their first solo project and says they "initially coded everything by hand" and later started using Cursor, which "really sped up the development process". The download is rogue_space_0_5.pdx.zip (695 kB).
