What it is
Say When! is "a fast-paced, cheese-grating game with zany characters and off-the-wall minigames". You crank the grater over each customer's dish, and despite the title, as Engadget notes, they "will not actually say 'when'". You have to watch for each customer's tells, like a twitching moustache or a change of expression. A satisfaction meter drops when you over- or under-serve or move too slowly, and when it bottoms out you're fired. Minigames interrupt shifts (Engadget had to save a choking customer; the store also promises "raging cows"), and you pick a modifier between shifts. It uses held buttons, the crank and tilt, with optional microphone input, and requires "lots of crank usage". It has online scoreboards.
It's by Smashtoad Studios, released in the Catalog in October 2025 for $10 (also on itch.io). At the 2025 Playdate Community Awards it won Best Arcade Game and was a finalist for Outstanding Use of Crank and Best Action Game. Panic includes it in "The Cranky Award" collection.
