What it is

"Are you a master of the drifting arts? If not...would you like to be?" Trackminia is "a precision-racer inspired by a legendary series of French games". Simberg spells it out: no relation to Trackmania, but very inspired by it. It has three 3D environments, 24 campaign tracks (each with four pre-recorded competitors of different skill), unlockable cars, a daily random track, and a full track editor with sharing, so friends can race your replays and play your tracks. There are also "various slick (and sometimes silly) secret treats". It's ultimately a dexterity test, but the competitors' range of skill means you can finish the campaign "even if you're only so-so" at it. By default you steer with the D-pad and hold A a lot. Optional control schemes cut down the button-holding or swap in crank steering, and it respects the Reduce Flashing setting.

It's by Eli Piilonen, released in the Catalog in January 2025 for $8. At the 2025 Playdate Community Awards it won Accomplishment in Accessibility and Outstanding Technical Achievement in an SDK Game, and was a finalist for Best Action Game and Outstanding Visual Achievement in an SDK Game. Panic's staff note: "A drifting-based 3D racing game polished to perfection."
