"A steamboat, a stormy sea, and everything in it trying to sink you, now on Playdate." You captain a small steamboat on wild seas full of sharks, naval mines, pirate ships and the occasional seagull. You "ride the swell, jump the waves and keep the cannon busy, all the way to a showdown with the legendary Titanic."
This is a Playdate rewrite of Trip on the Funny Boat, which the page says was made in a week for the PyWeek 2 game jam in 2006 by Pekka Kujansuu, Olli Etuaho and Joona Karjalainen, "where it won the team competition." The Playdate version adds two new game modes where the crank aims the cannon; the classic unaimed cannon modes are still available.
Controls per the page: left and right on the D-pad move the ship forward and back, Up or A jumps, B or Down fires, and holding Down or B until the steam stops gives a special fire action. It's a 2.5 MB .pdx.zip, published on itch.io on 22 Oct 2026, listed as name-your-own-price, with a link to the git repository.
Who made it
The Playdate version is by Liam O'Connor. The original was made by Pekka Kujansuu, Olli Etuaho and Joona Karjalainen for PyWeek 2 in 2006, per the itch.io page.
