What it is
"In the not so distant future", around 2060, a computer virus that can infect any connected device is causing chaos across the city. Rada, a programmer "who loves baseball, roller skating and going to the bar", builds Wirewalker, software that can hack into infected devices. Wirewalk is a top-down action-RPG with hand-crafted dungeons and "fun text with playful elements". Simberg likens it to a compact Link's Awakening set in the Mega Man Battle Network world. You find codes, jack into dungeons from your home PC, and fight with a baseball bat, using items that riff on Zelda's, like a hookshot that lets you swing around poles and a ball you can curve. He finished it in about three hours. The crank is only used for cosmetic extras, and battles need some reflexes. The store lists an "AskGameDev – 1st Winner Summer 2021" link, suggesting an earlier jam version.
It's by Danilo Ganzella, released in the Catalog in December 2024 for $7, with updates into July 2025 and an original soundtrack on YouTube and Spotify. It's a Panic Staff Pick, praised for "a delightfully catchy soundtrack", and was a finalist for Best Adventure Game at the 2025 Playdate Community Awards.
