What it is

XTRIS is "the hottest new arcade dexterity challenge". You move a cursor around a small grid (Engadget counts boards of four, five or six tiles across three levels) to land on a randomly placed X as many times as you can in 60 seconds. Your cursor wraps around the edges, and each X you collect tumbles off the board into your score. Jordan Carroll voices an arcade announcer who shouts things like "neato!" and "godlike!". It uses the D-pad and buttons with "a lot of rapid button pressing", and a Zen Mode removes the timer. It has online leaderboards and stat tracking. Simberg notes it started on PICO-8.

It's by Fletch Makes Stuff, released in the Catalog in February 2025 for $4 (also on itch.io). It was a finalist for Best Arcade Game at the 2025 Playdate Community Awards.

On the card

Sixty seconds, a tiny grid, one X. Move to it as many times as you can while the announcer yells encouragement, then try again.
