brb is an online text chat messenger for Playdate. The developer calls it "the world's first real online chat messenger for Playdate" and describes it as "ICQ soul. WhatsApp ease." The name means "be right back."
You create a six-digit ID and add contacts by ID, and you can rename or delete them. The app shows who's online, lets you quote and reply to a message, and has sent and read receipts. Chat history is saved. The developer says the typing input was built around the Playdate's buttons and crank, and that it also works in the Playdate Simulator without a console. A Playdate (or the Simulator) and an internet connection are required; the developer suggests sharing a phone's connection to stay connected on the go.
Text chat is live now. The developer says emojis and voice messages are coming soon. The developer's own ID, 777777, can be added to send bugs, ideas or feedback.
